i think the grapevine/stadia tracks are in that area, off the kopu/hikuai rd somewhere, permission maybe required for some parts though.
i'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me on here will post and let you know the details.

if can get hold of Andy C book 102 4WD off road adventures, has a few tracks on the Coromandel region.

also I think there is a road off '309 Road' that from time to time is open, travels thru forestry areas.
I travelled the road less travelled now where the heck am I!!!

have just been looking on google earth, about 10-12 kms east of hikuai on the kopu-hikuai rd, theres an area called nevesville, theres quite a few tracks in there that are open to public i believe, look it up.
its probably 30mins from whangamata.

any latest updates on this area from anyone?

Thats the Stadia / Neavesville / Grapevine area. Some DOC land, some Maori, and some private. "Open to the public" is a bit of a generalisation. You should talk to Peter Vahry to find out more details on what you're supposed to do to get in there.

Its not the sort of place to take a standard vehicle though - it will never be the same afterwards  Its much like Tairee's track/Waitawheta, as are most tracks in the Coromandel.

well, i started from queenstown two and a half weeks ago went up to wood end, the mount cook way, camped there at a cool camp ground.
next day i went to levin via blue bridge. then camped in national park, that place is amazing and i cant wait till i have to campthere again :)
then after xmas went to otama beach in coromadle and had the best few days of summer i can remember, found some cool tracks there, one in particular was real rough, then at the top a 2wd elf went by with a tone of gravel on the back
later found it stuck with 2 blown tyres and in a shit spot. they had a long day ahead.
then back down to taupo, on to otaki, then hokitika, then kidds bush at hawea, then home.
over 5 thou k's, 2 batteries a radiator hose lots of oil and the best few weeks ive had. ill put up pics soon.
