DANA 44 DIFF GEARS - LOWER RATIO

Post by MAHINDRACJ4A »

hey guys
iv been told i have a 5.38:1 diff  thats a very high ratio
so i was thinking to go to a lower ratio so it will be good for offroad and good for on road so i can get a higher top speed

my gearbox final 3rd gear is 1:1

any ideas ??

all thats a bit beyond me when it comes to incorporating diff gears with transfer case ratios and adding larger tyres into the mix too.

All i know is that low box 1 and 2 i cant even touch the accelerator, its crawls away in any situation, third low box needs a little tickle. High ratio I dont even bother with 5th gear as it provides no advantage to use it. about 120km p/h is utterly as fast as it will go.

I guess i'll get into the calculations one day...... when i have the need for an exercise in mental masturbation......

The 5.38's of what you have are a very low ratio. Good for off road, going slow and acceleration but not so good for cruising.

Here is a set on trade me.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 749708.htm
