Cd Player/ Headunit
Cd Player/ Headunit
Who can recomend a good headunit/ CD player? I Dont wana spend all me life savings, but need something that can stand the punishment that offroading offers.. (dust, Rattling) I have a 24 volt system but also have a converter now to go to 12 volt so any would do. Need something that will put out some duff duff haha
I have a Sony Xplode ( i think its a 160 - towards the bottom of the range) and it has not missed a beat on the rough stuff.
It sounds good and has an output on the back to drive a power amp if you want more duff duff

be careful when they say ipod and make sure its not just a usb at the front cause it wont work it needs to have the special lead from the back that plugs in to the ipod. i found a good cheap cd player off trademe with aux in and just plugged my ipod into the normal earphone jack and it was good. or just get a thing for your ipod so that you can tune it into a radio station like this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Portable-audio-iPods/iPod-accessories/FM-Transmitters-iTrips/auction-127824112.htm with a standard head deck

SD/USB is the way to go
So far I have bought 3 of the same stereo for different vehicles with no problems in any of them. Its a simple FORYOU CD Player that has an SD Card slot, USB slot, and MP3/CD Player. Look for them on Trademe (and no I am not the seller)
Never missed a beat even up the Akatarawas (no jumping with SD or USB) and they cost me $140.00 each.
Put it this way, rather drown and replace a $140 unit that does everything then a $200 unit that only plays CD's.

Yep, I've got the basic Sony Xplod MP3/CD unit, it does bloody well not skipping on rough roads, has good sound & wasn't too expensive.

Im here, soakin it all in haha. Im thinkin about the pioneer option with the ipod plug in thing, but Jerry is right, an ipod with a harddrive will get a beating when going offroad and wont handle it. I could get "flash" ipod or something? Got the blaupunkt tape player going yesterday (put in a 24 to 12 volt reducer, guy who sold me the truck pinched it!!) and its a beaut! Goes hard believe it or not, with the radio playing. But am still going to get a cd player. The sony xplode ones are about $160 from repco arnt they? Can ya plug in ipod into them?
all you need is a cd player with front aux input and a mp3 player , simple plug and play ,..
my cd player is in the roof consloe and i ran a cable down the piller into the glove box and plug in the mp3 and she's away, 20 gigs of music on random is heaps..

yep thats where I got mine from ... were cheaper than Super Cheap
They both have both have a plug in the front and a lead to plug into the headphone out put of your Ipod or whatever.
the lead is a bit short so ya might want to get a longer one from the likes of Dick Smiths
