Winch mount revamp

Post by Shane »

Just doing some basic winch mount mods to tidy up the front of the Nissan, thought it might be useful for someone.
since I've owned the vehicle I haven't cleaned/serviced the winch so pulled it off stripped, cleaned, repacked(was pretty nasty in there)replaced main motor bearing(std alternator type bearing $12) and reassembled.

I had in the past moved the winch back as far as possible,so it was just a matter of tidying the front up.
Below pic is with winch moved back but with std fairlead/frame set up which is also moved back from factory.this set up is approx 4 1/2 inches shorter than std factory set up.

I cut side plates back another 50mm and made a basic lower cross bar out of 3 pieces of angle(hope its strong enough)and welded in place.

I made another cross brace that bolts to winch brackets(forward facing) and side plates, this was made from 2 bits of angle welded togeather with a section cut out in middle for winch cable to run through.

Winch in the hole with a heavier gauge cable fitted which is also shorter than std

I had a piece of 4mm plate folded to bolt on and a new fairlead fitted also, the plate cost $95 abit pricy I feel and $140 for fairlead which is good price I think being a superwinch one.

Did you make the bullbar yourself too...??

Had a fab shop bend the tube for bull bar, I made the brackets and welded up.

Looks good Shane - hasn't buggered up your approach angle either.
