Not a bad vehicle. I assume its the 1HZ engine. No turbo. Not the most zippy vehicle but still plenty of power. If you just mentioned the age of the vehicle I would say it was a steal. But 350,000 kms on the clock. Its not just the engine thats high k's. Its the whole vehicle. Are you mechanically minded. Is the vehicle a rental with a solid service record. What state are all the other bits in. Is it coil front or leaf. Does it have the snorkel and diff locks/winch. Bull bars?

The engines are quite solid. Have the big end bearings been done. When was cambelt last done. They also go well with a turbo on them. Can be easily done too.

Diffs and axles are bloody solid on them. Although the front CV's are quite expensive if its the coil front. Not that you'll be going through many of them unless you have diff locks and large tyres.

If I knew the vehicle was in good mechanical condition I would say its a good deal. But then i always wanted a troopi. Instead I got an HJ61, BJ74 and a HDJ81. I've still got room though!

If its an ex mine vehicle, eg HWE or Doug Hood or somthing, walk away, no better yet, run away, really really fast.
They get put through there paces and have been generally poorly serviced and maintained.
A mine vehicle for carring the men to the machines on the mine site would be there most common application over here.
We have about five on site down here, and HWE when they left had four or five they were trying to get rid of, some went up to Huntly for a while to get the last bit of life from them, but were due to be sold soon.
Look for rust around the front windscreen, listen for dodgy lifters, which is a random lite tick when idleing when hot, check the ADD is functioning properly, and the rear shock mounts arre still intact.
Those are some of the common weak spots that show up on site from what i have seen.
Oh, and a clutch that screeches when you slip it under load. We had a couple doing that for some reason.
Cheers,
Pete.
