How can I tell what gearbox I have?
It's out of an LN65 ute if I remember, I've tried searching the net but can't find anything solid and can't find any markings on the box itself, just wondering if there are any other ways to tell?

I dont know how you tell but hiluxs had either a 4 or 5 speed.
But there is no hilux box that is any good and if you increase the power or fit bigger tyres you are better to fit a Surf 130 box which is miles stronger and never gives trouble.

Re: How can I tell what gearbox I have?
there are several boxes but post here what you have and we will let you know.
Questions;
Is the gearbox from a LN65 5 speed NZ new hilux, if so it's most likely to be a g52, you can tell this simply as both the gear shift and T/case shift come out of the gearbox itself.
W56 (generation 1 surf...2-door) the T/case shifter comes directly out of the top of the T/case.
Later surfs (2nd generation) R series are different again, depending on engine type and whether they are NZ new or Jap import.
hope this helps

The gearshift and transfer come out of the same place, strangely they seem to hit each other?
I'll get a photo up tomorrow

Took a while but here it is:

Now when the transfer lever is moved forward towards to what I guess is 2WD, the gearshift will hit it in 2nd, 4th and Reverse - is something bent?

its a G52,
has the trans case lvere been put n the wrong way around, undo the 4 bolts halding it in, turn it 180 degrees, bolt it back in and try
