Rock rings are a Trail Gear item that is sold here by SNR 4x4. They are a replacement for the tin felt retainers that are found on the front of solid axle toyota 4wds. These are of considerably heavier construction and hold their shape much better (helping keep water out of the hub) and will take a knock from stray rocks etc.

You don't get the same amount of clearance under a shaved nissan diff but they are a bit better built to run into stuff.

I think the mutts trussed diff would be stronger but it will be interesting to see how the internals hold up.

Very nice work and what do you mean about the original fuel cap? pass the wires in to hook up to a battery for a DC Welder or an anderson plug and airline fitting mounted in there?

Going to be running a couple of 700 cca plus batteries. One in the engine bay and 1 set into some custom panel work over the passengers rear wheel arch. welder setup will be basic and not sure just how basic yet
And yes airline fitting for air tools and airline will be in there as well. Still have a fair bit of other shit to yet though :P

Trying to get my head round your winch Rok. I am but a simple engineer and thinking can be hard....
I take it that you will be able to disconnect the pulley at the rear, from the chassis, then attach it to something else behind you to winch off? And lock the front hook to your chassis, thus pulling in the pulley? Is that the plan?

I assume you are doing this to be able to winch in both directions, or is there another reason for the double back?

I have been thinking about a mid mount PTO for mine, and now you have shown me how it could work.

You got it in one John. With a couple of extra blocks you can also winch sideways (albeit with difficulty) and you can set a line and drive it on really ugly sidlings.
Well that is the plan, like the rest of truck it is all wait and see if it works now

Okay this work thing has been a real PIA (but after going down over $2m in the last 2 years, I will not complain that it is getting busy again ;) )

So any way, here's an update of some progress

Got a radiator shroud made up and fitted, It now has some fans attached as well
Image

Shot of front guard which has been reshaped at the front, The axle is so far forward now that I don't have to even flatten the seam in the wheel arch which you normally have to do just to fit 33"s
Image

Rear guard reshaped with new fuel filler in and exhaust exit flushed off
Image

Painted all the door shuts and inner guards, and interior etc. This is a major job
Image

Image

Transmission oil cooler lines for the auto
Image

Holden air con pump for OBA in. It is a sanden but not an SD unit, so I have fitted an oiler etc and we shall see how it goes I guess
Image

It is getting quite full in here now, I have also put a power steer cooler in the front
Image

Made up a steering column out of an IFS surf, beam axle surf and 70 series cruiser
Image

My new (2nd hand) 120a alternator
Image

Have a guess what has started now!
Image

Relocated main fuse box and new frenched in box for extra fuses and relays
Image

This is what is swallowing heaps of time, making all the clips etc to keep all the wiring and plumbing tidy and out of the way
Image

I have chopped out a fair old chunk from here to allow for the snorkel to fit in between the inner and outer guard
Image

Snorkel on and attached to the inner guard. I didn't want the snorkel attached to the A pillar so I can get the front clip off in one piece, complete with air filter.
Image

And with outer guard on. I reckon it looks way better than having a fark off ugly pipe hanging on the outside

Looking wicked! I take it you are using the standard trans from behind the 304? If so have you figured out any way to manually control the shifting? I have one in my vp and am keen to try set it up so i can lock it in 2nd and not have it change into first when towing round windy bits and up hills etc.

Cheers,
Pete
