FJ40 front guard lift

Post by Heath »

Anyone got tips or photos of guard lifts?

Looking to drop the body on my rat rod as low as I can and this will mean I have to lift the guards (maybe) to gain clearance for the lil 27 inch tyres. Might widen the front a little too, to match the wider rear.

Have done it to both my fawdys bodies. Shorten the front guards upright panel about 50mm, then match the front of the body where it bolts to, also front bib/panel might need the same treatment depending how far forward you'll keep the guards. easy and done heaps.

Cheers for the pics (any of the finished product), I kew I had seen/heard it had been done.

I am planning on maintaining the original rear angles and slide the guard up and fwd a little. I'm picking I will have to do a little "massaging" to get the front to line up with the front panel.

Got a little panel work planned for tomorrow. Going to get some .6mm steel and make things a little tidier than the .8mm I am using.

Depending on how much room you need... I removed the 2 upper guard panels completely,

The guard will sit higher and further forward so I also trimmed the front of the guards back to line up with the front panel.

And cut ends off each of the upper guard panels to fill the gaps.

Didn't need to change the front panel at all other than a couple of new holes drilled to mount the guard up.

You will also need to lengthen the metal bracket the guards rest on - or make a new mount on the chassis to bolt them to.

The back of the guard will be higher if you do this and are planning on matching up the steps under the doors (could just trim body under the doors to match).

And finished product:

LOL probably not that much. I have all the bits (some bent and will need fixing or replacing) and a welder so I'll muddle along the old fashioned way.
