Cruiser diff heads

Post by Bubba »

Quick question about Cruiser LSD. I'm looking at putting in a LSD in the front

Sadam said that they may not be that good to swap

Whats the general consensus?

lsd up front makes a big difference to traction, all that weight over the front axle is wicked  ....not as good as a locker tho

locker in the back , LSD up front makes a good combo and is gentler on the CV's

Knew you would be the man, Sounds all good to me, problem being a rear locka costs to many $$$ at the moment, in time it will come

Yes Tu, you are right on all accounts, it just come up. I would have one in the front and back 8) not as good as a locka in the back i know, but it would help with towing

Plus it would help when it goes to play in the mud

i run the locker in the rear and a nice tight lsd up front. Seems to work sweet, although you do get a little bit of a twitch in the steering if the lsd does "slip" But nothing scary and you soon get used to how it handles. Its only an issue in 4WD. As Wop said it is good insurance for CVs  Long term i will fit a locker in the front :D but not before i've bought longfields 8) 8)

While on the topic can I thread jack?

Thanks.

My truck had a LSD in the rear, its since been fitted with a locker. Will the rear LSD fit in the front? Some one mentioned that the front an rear diffs may be different? The LSD is still with the guy I bought the truck off as he forgot to get it to me but if I can fit it I'm gonna chase it up?
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Yep it'll fit ok. Its only if you try and put it into a semi-floating rear axle it wont fit.

the lsd will fit as long as you have a standard cruiser front diff. approx 1990 on they changed the front diff to the small up pinion ,ie 80 series front which is hilux size so if you have one of these your lsd out of the back wont fit
FJ40,INJECTED SB 406 CHEV, LOCKER,35 SIMEXS,warn winch , 80seies vx 4.2 24v turbo diesel ,fr and rear lockers 3" exh top mount intercooler, 021 724482

Well, its been a while in the making but it's in now. I have yet to drive in anger but on the road it's no different and the brakes have stopped pulling to one side (bonus!)
