1kz boost

Post by a80crewza »

Just got a 3inch dump pipe fitted but egts are still high. I currently have the boost set to just under 14psi also.

My question is what happens when the boost is put above this, ie what happens to the engine when there is a fuel cut? How do I know what boost I can put it upto. Someone possibly put the fuel up which might be why I am still getting high temps.

Cheers.

When the boost exceeds the set limit for the ecu it cuts fuel...Limits is about 14 to 15 psi.
Possibly the fuel has been turned up a bit by previous owners.
On top of the spill valve on the injector pump is a little hex with lock nut. (under steel cap)
Screw in for more fuel, out for less.
Too much and it wont idle.
Without any magic boxes there isn't much more you can do....
Except install an intercooler.

So can I just put the truck in park and keep upping the boost until won't idle anymore?
Intercooler is on the list of things to do..

Its not the boost you are upping that stuffs up the idle, its the fuel....
Also if its too much then it might also not turn off.....

If your EGT's are too high (particularly when on boost) then you want to back the fuel off a bit....
Say 1/4 turn at a time...

As for boost, just keep adjusting the boost tap and take it for a run, get it to hit max boost.... if it cuts out (you will feel it) drop the setting back on the boost tap...

Okay sweet. Will give that a go. The injector pump is another thing I don't know where it is  . Is this what it looks like?: http://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php? ... 1322273698

Yep that is a 1kzte injector pump like you will have.
They don't have the adjustable screw like people always say they do. They have a spill valve
The none EFI (manual) pumps have the fuel screw

There is an adjustment via the spill valve, it changes the fuel delivery over the whole throttle range...
Most jap imports are set at the minimum for emissions and also fuel characteristics.
Its a crude way to tweak the fuel but it works...After that you need a majic box to fool or massage the fuel curve in the ECU.

Now that you know what the pump looks like above is a photo of the 2LTE one.. Bascially the same in operation. Under the steel cap circled is the adjustment for the spill valve...
Have fun and I suggest one adjustment at a time and take it for a blat around the block...
Do the same blat each time to feel / see any differences...

Upping fuel/boost and no intercooler is a recipee for disaster to your wallet.

Agreed !... Need to keep watching those gauges... and as said earlier.... only so much you can do before you need an intercooler....
